Big Announcement

Miller tee-teed on the potty for the first time last night. She’s been sitting on it regularly for a while now with no success. Quite often she’ll stand up and go on the floor while walking to the tub for her bath. But last night while Daddy was doing bath duty she did it!! I would say I’m sorry I wasn’t there to witness it. But apparently she was so excited when it happened that she stood up, the potty stuck to her little booty, and spilled all over the floor! Oh well, you take what you can get. What a big girl!

Other 18 month milestones:
  • about 26 pounds and maybe 32″ tall (they forgot to give me a milestone sheet at our checkup the other day)
  • is easily appeased after shots with a sucker (she was screaming bloody murder after she got her boosters and I said between wails “do you want to go get a sucker?” she sniffled a little and said “cucker?” and that was the last of the tears!)
  • using manners- please, thank you, bye bye while blowing a kiss, mam mam (yes ‘mam)
  • identifying who things belong to (apparently I own nothing- she walks around the house pointing to things and either saying daddy, ison (wilson), or jack jack)
  • willfully tosses her paci into her bed without being asked when she gets up in the morning
  • happily goes to bed at naptime or bedtime- “Miller do you want to go to bed?” “beah (bed), paci, bye, bye (to anyone else in the room)” and of course a kiss
  • anytime you put her on the changing table she asks for a “bacet” (bracelet)
  • she loves to color (cucker) on anything and with anything
  • counts to two- which is pretty funny because once she starts she gets stuck in a loop of one, two, one two, one, two . . .
  • knows the first catechism question (little ears ARE always listening- she picked this up after a couple of days of hearing me do questions with Wilson)
  • she loves her babies
  • plays by herself really well
  • says cracker when we get to church on Sunday mornings and runs in to her teachers
  • throws a really good fit when she doesn’t get her way, complete with screaming, pulling of her clothes, writhing around on the floor, and throwing anything within her reach for dramatic effect
  • she climbs out of her hook on high chair as soon as you turn you back and is in the middle of the table pulling flowers out of the vase or throwing plates and forks on the floor
  • loves animals especially ducks and turtles- knows several animal sounds
  • is officially off of milk until further notice- we are fairly certain that this is what is behind her ear trouble. She does eat milk products and would not be harmed by drinking a cup a milk if it were given to her, but apparently drinking it several times a day builds up and causes a nasal allergic reaction which in turn backs up into her ears. Instead she drinks water or straight juice and takes a couple of vitamin gummy bears and a viactiv every day.
  • has hair that is finally long enough for some very small (and very cute) pig tails

Story of the Weekend #2

Aunt Suzanne took Wilson to run a few errands this afternoon. While they were out he picked up a rather large bag of gummy worms. On the way home Suzanne said, “Is your mom going to shoot me for letting you get that big bag of candy?” Wilson thought for a minute and said, “No. She doesn’t know how to use a gun.”

Imelda

Sorry it’s been awhile since my last post and sorry that this one doesn’t have any photos. But I do have a funny story- maybe that will tide you over until I unload my camera. We’ve been having a great summer so far and are really enjoying swimming and seeing friends.

The highlight has probably been our trips to Memphis which is where I am as I type. This time the whole fam. came up for Daddy to get to hang out with some friends to celebrate the upcoming wedding of a good buddy. On the way up we stopped in Grenada at this little shopping center that has an indoor courtyard that the kids could run around in and let off some steam. It was about 7:30 so the only thing open was the restaurant where we were having supper. After we ordered I took the kids out to explore while we waited on the food. We started looking in the windows of this really cute kids shop. I was tying to look for things to show Wilson and Miller starts her usual one sided chatter. I started listening to the chatter and realized the word “shoes” was coming up a lot. I looked over and she was sitting on the ground taking her shoes off and absolutely drooling over the display of Mary Jane Crocs in the window. When I told her we weren’t going to be getting any shoes, she laid out on the brick floor and pitched a grand fit for the whole world to see. The ladies from the restaurant came out to see what was wrong and to offer assistance (crayons, crackers, etc.). I let them know that unless they had a key to their neighbor’s store, we were just going to have to ride this one out. So we did. Until the food came and she got to pitch another fit because she was sharing with me and couldn’t have her own fork.
Girls.

Bomgar night at the Braves

Last week we had the annual Bomgar night at the Braves game. It’s always so much fun and a great way to measure the growth of the company- in the first picture you can see orange shirts in three bays of seats there was one more section on the other side of us. We also had two air conditioned boxes. Last year we had one box and two sections of seating and the first year there was no inside seating and just one little section of seats off the deck where we ate! Wilson had a great time- he’s become such a pro after playing t-ball. He wanted to wear his whole uniform “in case one of the baseball men sees me- then they’ll know I play t-ball!” He settled for just his hat and a Bomgar shirt. Miller enjoyed climbing all over the stands and some of Daddy’s coworkers. She and I had to leave about half way through the game, but Dad and Wilson stayed until the very end and enjoyed the fireworks.

Trip to Memphis

Last week dad had to go to Vegas for a conference.  So, mom, Wilson, Miller,  & Granna went to Memphis.  We went to the zoo, the children’s museum, swam, and went to visit all our great-aunts that live there as well.  Thanks Suz.  for letting us stay with you!  Wilson has been planning his next trip to Memphis since we got in the car to come home- who needs the strip!?

End of the Year Party

We had a great ending to a FABULOUS year at preschool. Everybody went to Shelton’s house to play in his dirt pile and jump on an inflatable slide/castle. We intended to have water on the slide, but it was unseasonably cold and we opted for dry sliding. The last picture is Wilson with Mrs. Angie- the best preschool teacher you could ask for. She had to put her sunglasses on when she hugged everyone goodbye so they wouldn’t see her crying!

Date Night

A few weeks ago Phil surprised me with a great date night.  We went to Easely Amused and painted Picasso portraits of each other.  So far Miller has been the most impressed with our talent.  We had a great time- thanks for a great night, Babe!

This is more like it!

Round two of tubes went quite well.  Miller read a little of Carl Goes to the Park and removed her allergy alert ankle bands while waiting for the anesthesiologist to come (she doesn’t like being defined by labels).  She took her goofy juice like a good girl and quickly became the fun little party girl we all love.  The nurses came to get me when it was over with and said she had yet to shed one tear- she just woke up and picked her arms up for someone to come hold her!  She has done great all afternoon, too.  She had one little throw up spell on the way home, but as soon as we got here I couldn’t stop her from running around and chattering about everything.  She then took a three hour nap this afternoon and went to hang out at Pat Pat’s for dinner while I went to Bible Study (and obviously enjoyed her daddy’s dessert as is evident by the picture).  This is a far cry from how she was doing post op last time and hopefully it will stay this way.  Dr. Lee did save the old tube for me to look at(“in case I thought he was crazy”).  It was completely clogged with crud and was, as diagnosed, “unsalvagable”.  Thankfully it’s gone and new ones are in place.  Onward & upward .  .  .
Thank you, Pat Pat, for hanging out with me in the waiting room.  It was nice to have some company.

Prayer Request . . .

Little Miss Moo has got to go back to the ENT tomorrow to have her tubes replaced.  Apparently not only can tubes not prevent ear infections, your body can also reject them- thereby causing an ear infection.  Her left tube is “not salvageable” and so they replace the whole set to keep them on the same page as far as care and when they should fall out.  We pray that this new set works, will heal, and will bring an end to some pretty pitifullness(not to mention sleepless nights) around here.  We thank you for joining with us!!
